Home Sweet Home

Our apartment lease is coming due, so Chris and I have casually been looking at other places, maybe closer to the University or cheaper rent. So far we've only checked out 2 places, and our apartment now was so much nicer than the other two. I realized I've grown quite attached to our little home, so I think we'll be here for a while. Plus, we've got all our magazine subscriptions, Time, Readers Digest, Ensign, coming here, it would just be too much of a hassle!

Frozen Goods

I don't know if any of you have noticed the weather here in Edmonton, but we are freezing! Like Mom, I have everyone's temperatures on my computer and nobody even comes close to Edmonton. This week, without the windchill, ranges from -34 to -39 degrees celsius. I don't remember the last time I've had that cold of weather. I am definitly taking the bus this week and seriously contemplating thermal underware in addition to my sweaters, scarfs, toques, and mitts!!

Obessions

Lately I have found myself craving and eating lots and lots of real fruit snacks (they're kind of like wine gums). Whenever we go over to the Lamonts lately they always seem to have big costco size bags of them and I always eat till I feel sick...but I'm always ready for more. Last Sunday we took a bag home and they have been a yummy snack all week.

Chris' new obsession is Harry Potter. He has really gotten into the books. He just finished the fourth book, and has already started the fifth...he says they're the only books he's read since his mission. Hopefully he doesn't start neglecting his studies.

Overview

I haven't posted much lately cause I haven't really had anything interesting to note. So I figured I'd just write about what we've been doing lately.

Yesterday morning I babysat for Anderson (which I love to do, he was very easy to watch), and went visiting teaching in the afternoon. Last night Chris and I spent time with his buddy Joe and fiancé Amy. We had homemade chicken wings (which were really good, they had a sweeter taste which I really liked), potato salad, vegetable medley, garlic bread, and juice. We played some Wii (which I really need to practice more, cause I'm getting my butt kicked), and then went to Steve's basketball game. They lost. But during half time they had a bump game and Chris won. About 20 people started, and when it was just the two left he beat out a guy who had been playing college ball for four years! Woo Hoo Chris! After we watched Benchwarmers. It was surprisingly better than expected; funny with a nice little story to it.

Today we picked up Dad at the airport. He's driving the truck back to Headingley. We went out for breakfast before he left. I had a Belgium Waffle with cream and berries and bacon. Chris had pancakes, toast, bacon, sausage, and eggs. Dad had eggs with hash browns and cheese and tomato bits (he ordered it for the healthy tomatoes). For the rest of the day I think we both will just be studying. Maybe we'll finally finish our Rocky marathon tonight....

The Deal With Pure Vanilla?

Chris' good friend recently returned from Mexica and brought us back some real vanilla, not the extract...but I think it has some alcohol in it, or its soaked in rum. Does anyone know the scoop on pure vanilla?? (I know I'm the food scientist, but I can't remember). I was just wondering if someone else knew or had heard anything about it. Don't worry, I won't be judging anyone if they say they do use it and it's a little bit alcoholic!

Favorite Place in the Whole Wide World

Last night we went to the waterpark with Jen and her family and some of her in-laws. It was a school fundraiser so the tickets were only $10.00 (a third of there regular price). It was great fun, and Anderson loved all the water and was absolutely obsessed with the slides! Alicia is pulling for a family reunion at Disney Land, while my vote is the West Ed Water Park!

Sisters?

People used to always ask if me and Natasha were sisters...I think one time twins was even a question. As well when we lived together and someone called for me, they always thought Natasha was me on the phone. We must just have lived together too long.

Feb 07 Travels

These are pictures from mine and Chris' first trip together.
Here we are at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta in a bobsled.

This is the actual bobsled they used when they filmed the movie 'Cool Runnings'.

Here I am winning an Olympic Gold Medal for Canada. Lets say its for the skeleton!

Oh and this is me practicing for the skeleton.

This is just the two of us sometime last February in my old apartment.

Holiday Photos

Christmas Day!

I like this one because it shows how well Chris fits into the family, no one can keep there eyes open for a photo!

First Day

Yesterday was my first day back at school and I was quite excited for it. I have a long day, my first class is at eight in the morning, and my last class ends at eight at night. So last night I was very tired and had a great sleep.

I'm taking Intro to Teaching, Community Studies (this teacher seems a little off her rocker, so we'll see how it plays out), Anthropology of Science and the Environment (this class seems really interesting so far, but I'll have to keep up, or I think it could get way over my head espically with all the lingo), Education Pyschology (our prof is pretty 'mature' in age, and has a lot of good stories about the classroom, so I think it'll be a good class), and finally Family Economical Issues (this class is my night class and I think will be very interesting. It's not so much about the financial issues, but the emotion, and social factors that affect families and relationships and how they spend their money. I think it will be fun to see how me and Chris fit in).

So it will be a busy semester, but I'm interested in all the classes, now I just have to get used to the 20 min. walk to school each day....

Making a Splash

We are back in Edmonton and the trip back went smoothly. We picked up the tow dolley and car in Regina. It took us a while to get the car all hooked up, but that is where is Chris is pretty much amazing, cause I never could have done it. Regina was so cold. It was blowing ice pellets at us and was just so windy. When we made is back to Edmonton is was around 0 degrees, which was really warm for us!

We stayed in Saskatoon over night at the Days Inn. They had a pretty decent pool and waterslide. I would say that the waterslide was maybe two storeys, but is twisted all the was done and you could get going really fast. These little kids were just shooting out of it. When Chris went down the first time he too shot out and made a huge splash. He got everyone wet, even the people on the other side of the pool on the deck watching! Everyone laughed though, cause it was pretty funny.

It's good to be home. We are in the midst of a Rocky marathon, and I'm sure Chris is missing all the brothers he had over Christmas.
