Birthday Suprise

Grandma and Grandpa Lamont suprised us yesterday morning when they called and said they were coming up for a visit and we were more than happy to have them!

We celebrated Macy's birthday a day early with a delicious chocolate caramel ice cream cake. Thanks for the the B-Day Macy!
Yum!

Family Drama

You may remember the gambling dream I had a while back about my brother Tom. Well... last night my weird dream starred my brother John and his family. They had somehow got rid of their house in Alabama and John had decided to move his family to Cardston, Alberta, Canada. I'm not really sure what he was planning to do there, but I was excited to have them closer and invited them to Thanksgiving dinner. I don't know which is weirder, Tom having a gambling addiction, or John and Alicia leaving lovely warm Birmingham and moving to Canada!

Bedtime Stories

This is about the only time Macy sits (other than eating). We like to make the most of it!

Oil Sands Discovery Center

Today we visited the Oil Sands Discovery Center. It was a fun little adventure.
Here is Macy excited to go.
Although she doesn't look all to excited here, I don't know what happened?!
It was cool to see all the huge machinery they use. And I mean huge, just look at the rest of these photos.
I don't really think she'll reach the pedals just yet!
Macy is thinking how she is going to get on that machine to play.
And then we headed outside for more fun.
This is a random family that was standing there when I took the picture. But you can see how big the machine really is.
This machine was huge. It is an old bucketwheel system that they brought down from the Oil Sands. They had to break it into 6 parts to transport it, and it took over a year to do the whole thing. It is 6 stories high and our tour guide told us in was actually one of the small ones used, the big ones were 10 stories high.
They would dig out raw oil sand, or bituman, in these buckets. Heavy duty stuff.
 Caution: Woman at work!
Macy is in the white hat below because she's the boss of us!

At the Playground

There is a great indoor playground at the community rec center and Macy and I were there early this morning so we had the whole place to ourselves, which meant Macy could and play and explore without being bull-dozed by the bigger kids. It was fun!
She is really starting to move and has started climbing to boot! She climbed up stairs and pulled herself on to platforms and kept trying to climb this slide.
They have a fun little 'rock climbing' wall.
I can't believe in a few short weeks this girl will be one!

A walk on the wild side

This is the best clip I can do because everytime she sees the camera she gets too excited and just starts to crawl.

Life in the Fort

We've been up here in Fort McMurray for a month now and things are going well. It's hard to believe that Macy is already 11 months. She just keeps growing. She has started to walk a little on her own and it is crazy. She just loves being on her feet. I have a membership at the Leisure and Rec center and Macy and I have been to the Baby and Me Aquatic Fitness class. It is great (and included in my membership). Macy sits in the floater and I do water aerobics around her. She is just so relaxed and occasionally yawns at me like I'm not working hard enough. It is fun!
Chris is busy with work. Last week we were able to go out on a date to The Keg sans Macy. It was great. The food was so good. He got a peppercorn steak with a twice baked potato and I got a steak with half a lobster. Oh so good! I have also officially registered for a Sprint Triathlon August 27th. I am so excited for it, hopefully I don't die!
Saying Hello from the balcony of our apartment. We've got a great view!

Parade Fun

Yesterday we had a ton of fun celebrating Canada Day. Since we live downtown it is nice to be close to so much of the action. We walked to the Pancake breakfast and enjoyed pancakes, sausage, and juice, and then we walked a couple of blocks to get seating for the parade. It was a great day, sunny and warm, but not too hot. The parade was lots of fun and Macy really enjoyed it. We got some good loot from it too, including a beach ball, mini frizbee, stickers and tattoos, candy and freezies, sunglasses, bubbles and more.
On our way to the pancake breakfast.
Getting ready for the parade.
Yay Canada!
An actual buffalo that was part of the parade. (We live in the Wood Buffalo county).
With all of our goodies.
HAPPY CANADA DAY!
