Expanding Culture

Tonight we experienced Navajo Tacos the real "Navajoian" way. Richard made the fried bread dough, and I made the taco filling to go with it. At first, I admit I was a little worried that the bread dough might be another 'John Christmas day pancakes' experience, but Richard did good and they tasted great. He is still planning to perfect the receipe, so look for it in the upcoming Cutts' Family Cook Book!

Just like that

I am now done, just like that. My last exam was this morning and I think it went pretty well. Now its back to the 9-5 restrictive job. At least no more studying.

Richard got here last night. Today we went to West Ed Mall. Sadly no waterpark, but I think I will survive....hopefully we'll go when James is here. We did check out the sea lions, fire-breathing dragon, and a bunch of other window shopping. I did buy a very comfy and soft robe for over 75% off, a good deal!

Tonight we went to Amy's while Chris studied and played DDR and Sing Star. It was lots of fun. Richard and I agree Mom and Dad should buy Rock Band....it would be a good FHE activity!!

Study Break

Yesterday Doug was in town for the afternoon, so he and Amy stopped by our place with pizza for a study break, since we both couldn't go out with them. It was much appreciated, and very tasty pizza.

ps. it is still snowing out, and the worst part is that no one is shovelling their sidewalks, so I'm always walking ankle deep in snow!

Updates

Just a little update. Last week both Chris and I had two exams each. We have two more this week, but I'm done Wednesday and Chris isn't done until Saturday. At least he'll have time to prepare. Last Friday night we babysat our nephew Anderson. He is almost two and lots of fun. He likes to take your hands and use them to manipulate objects he isn't strong enough too, for example the little kiddie lock that keeps the cupboards shut. He's a pretty smart kid. They are moving in May, so we'll miss them.

Saturday night we listened to Elder Nelson and his wife speak. His wife is sisters with our stake president's wife, so that's why they were visiting. It was kind of casual, but good to listen to Elder Nelson. Sunday we played games and watched movies, relaxing on our study free day. It seems to always be a lot easier to keep the sabbath day holy when your in school.

On a more depressing note, it has been snowing/blizzarding for the last 4 days! It is completely white again outside and the roads are terrible. I hope Richard finds his way up here alright. We are excited for his visit.

Anderson trying to escape!

Clearly he didn't, but I think he still had a fun time with his uncle.

It's Official

I am officially going back to Millennium Insurance for the summer. They took me back, no questions asked, except what day I will be starting (which will be April 28th). It'll be nice to have funds going in the bank account and not just going out. Now if only my job gave me a fancy truck!

Weird Weather

We've had some weird weather patterns lately. On Saturday and Sunday it was plus 25 celsius and sunny and absolutely gorgeous. Then yesterday it started to snow again. It's sunny again today, and supposed to be around 10 all week, and then snow again this weekend. I guess I'll just take all the nice days I can get.

Yesterday was my last day of volunteering at the Jr. High. It was a good experience and definitly broadened my view on Jr. High and teaching. Plus I had great students to work with, the ESL kids are so great. To bad I have to go back to working. If I was financially stable, I think I would just become a professional volunteer.

That time of year

It's that time of year where classes are over and finals are starting...plus finding a job. First, the finals. Both Chris and I had one last week which was nice to get one out the way. Officially finals week begins today. Chris has one tomorrow so he is studying like mad. I have two this week and two next, and then freedom! Woo hoo. We are both very exciting to start working again. I don't think Chris loves anything more than his job with his fancy vehicles...(well hopefully me!). As for myself and working...well I think I will probably go back to the place I was before I started school. I had applied at a couple of insurance offices close to our place and was excited when I had an interview today at one just two blocks away. Well, the interview was going well and I pretty much had the job and then the subject of pay came up. Since I was just to be a summer employee he offered $10 and hour. Ten bucks!! Thats it. I was so shocked. I am still a licensed agent, and at my old job I was making way, way, way more than that! Plus, we're in a bit of a labor shortage here in Alberta, I could work at McDonalds or Tim Hortans for more than $10/hour. Needless to say I won't be taking the job. All day though I've been thinking, ten bucks...wow, that guy needs a bit of a reality check, cause he'll never employ someone for that low.

I even got all dressed up for my interview.

Chris, my human dishwasher. Oh how I love him. (I wonder if a year ago today, when he proposed, he imagined he'd be washing so many dishes?!!?)

Just Life

So I realized that I haven't posted any pictures for a while. So here we have Chris and I just chillin' between conference playing Yahtzee (it was a pretty good game, we both got Yahtzee's both times and I actually won both...usually Chris wins at this game).

I tried to find a picture of us from last April around this time, but instead I came up with this one. From two years ago me and my roommates at an Easter Vigil in a downtown Catholic Church. We all accidently broke our candles...oops!

Conference Weekend

This morning we woke up to a little blizzard. Yesterday was beautiful, maybe plus 7 (celsius), and I went running outside and pretty much all our snow was gone. Today is just a different story. At least it stopped in the afternoon and warmed up to -1 so hopefully most will melt. Chris and I stayed home and listened to conference on the internet. In the morning I made cinnamon buns, and then later I made pizza rolls with the leftover dough. I also cut Chris' hair. I'm getting better, but I like to think I'm better than the one girl who just cut it all off. I don't like his hair too short, but at least if we cut it short it's longer until I have to cut it again!

Today was one of those days where I felt busy all day, but I don't feel like I've really gotten anything done! Tonight some friends are coming over for an ultimate girl night while the guys are at priesthood. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

The 'Finals Diet'

I fear that I have slipped into the "Finals Diet" a little early this year. In other words, I've been eating lots of candies and chocolate using the excuse of extra studying requireing extra energy (sugar) and as a motivation to study longer. It doesn't help that we've got lots of leftover Easter goodies hanging around. You may think, 'Valerie, you did your degree in Nutrition, shouldn't you know better?!', and you would be right! But that just makes it all the worse. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss! At least only 21 more days till my last final...
