Running For or Running Off?

Dad was gracious enough to make Rubens for us after our 5K race. 'Running for Rubens' was our motto and motivation. They were so delicious, except now as I run I've had to change my motto to 'Running Off Rubens' as I ate way too much....of course they were well worth it!

Macy's Training

Workin' hard on the treadmill...it's really the only way the rest of us can keep up with Macy's love of walking. She must take after her Grandma Cutts!

Headingley Fire Department Run/Walk for Wishes

Today was the big race day. After my previous attempt to run a 5K fell through I was very excited for this one, and even better that my Mom (Grandma Cutts) was walking/running it too. It was nice that the race was in Headingley so it was familiar territory. The weekend called for rain and more rain, but we had none for our race, and the sun even came out at the end. It was a little cool, but nice weather for a run.
Here we are just after registration.
Stretching and getting ready.
And they're off! This was a qualifying race for Provincials or something like that, so there were serious runners. These are the guys lined up at the front. The fastest guy finished in 15 minutes!
Can you spot Grandma? I am right behind the guy in the black shirt (who Grandma made friends with during the race). If you look really close you can see a little bit of my face.

Macy waiting patiently with Grandpa while we are running.

Coming up on the finish line.
I'm making a final dash for it and pass all those people in front of me to finish behind that boy who is just crossing the finish line.
The girl on the very left-bottom of this picture was my marker all through the race, she was always a little ahead of me, but I pushed past her right at the end.
I did it! My goal was 33 minutes and I did it in 32:44 so I felt pretty good about my race.
Lining up to cheer Grandma on.
Go Grandma!!!
Done and ready to go home.
Woo Hoo!
This was my first ever race and it won't be the last. It really gave my regular exercise and running a purpose and made it more enjoyable and rewarding. I don't know of any races in Fort McMurray over the summer, but I am keeping my eyes open and hope to do another one soon. I think I can cut down on my time too. Either way, it has been fun!

Very Prestigious

Check this site out. Chris and I are models! Too bad we aren't being compensated, oh well, the limo was pretty great!

Mother's Day and Other Happenings

These are the tulips Chris got me for Mother's Day. He got them on Friday so I've been enjoying them all weekend. Chris left early this morning for Fort McMurray. He says the town is really nice and should be very pretty and scenic once things green up. We celebrated Mother's Day with his parents on Saturday and had a delicious meal. One day down on my own with Macy, only 8 more till I fly to Winnipeg, I'm excited!!

Fun with Mom and Dad

Excited to go for a walk!

Where's Macy? (Look at all our garbage. Chris had just raked our huge yard!)

Here we are going to vote on a sunny election day. She just wouldn't look at the camera.

Baby Safe

Macy is 9 months now and moving around more and more everyday. Our house is not nearly ready. My tv stand particularly was a problem because we had cords everywhere and all the consoles in the open. So, after much looking, we found this stand on sale. I didn't like the pine look, but it was unfinished so easy to paint over. Now we are one step closer to a baby proof house. (Obviously I will remove the movies on the shelves, and the door will have a baby latch..so I guess we aren't really any closer to baby safe after all, oh well!)

Strawberry Delight

Marketing and product placement totally work on me. I went to the grocery store this week and right at the front, before you are really in the supermarket, they had strawberries, sugar, liquid pectin, and jam jars all on sale. I thought, hmm I've always wanted to make jam, why not? So I bought what I needed and made jam this week. So delicious! I made the no-cook kind so I didn't have to worry about sterilizing the jars (personally since I've taken so many food science and safety classes home canning makes me a little nervous). It was a success! Below I enjoyed this homemade jam on homemade bread. What a treat!
