It's a bird, it's a plane,...

It's SUPERMAN!!
On day 3 of our road trip I learned only a couple miles off the highway was Metropolis, Illinois, the DC comic and Illinois State Legislature declared hometown of Superman. Of course we had to make a pit-stop there!
I think the pictures really say it all.
Mostly we had to stop for Uncle Steve, in case you didn't know, he's a huge superman fan, if you want proof, he just named his first born Clark. This stop was for you Uncle Steve!
It was just a small, touristy town. They have a little gift shop and Superman museum. We checked out the gift shop, but it was of course, way over priced.
The real treat of it all was that we stopped at the local grocery store to pick up some lunch and discovered they had delicious fried chicken! We also had to stop at McDonald's to get a frozen lemonade. It was hot out! This was the day the van's air conditioning started to peter out and we were really feeling the heat and the humidity. Luckily we made it alive to Birmingham and checked in to our air-conditioned hotel with a nice courtyard and outdoor pool. Late night swims became a regular occurrence for me. Anyways, next post....Birmingham and cousins!!
